Exit Glacier Tomorrow

 

A glacier s a persistent body of dense ice that is constantly moving under its own weight; it forms where the accumulation of snow exceeds its ablation (melting and sublimation) over many years, often centuries. Glaciers slowly deform and flow due to stresses induced by their weight, creating crevasses, seracs, and other distinguishing features. They also abrade rock and debris from their substrate to create landforms such as cirques and moraines. Glaciers form only on land and are distinct from the much thinner sea ice and lake ice that form on the surface of bodies of water.

On Earth, 99% of glacial ice is contained within vast ice sheets (also known as "continental glaciers") in the polar regions, but glaciers may be found in mountain ranges on every continent.

 

 

Glacial ice is the largest reservoir of fresh water on Earth.^[4] Many glaciers from temperate, alpine and seasonal polar climates store water as ice during the colder seasons and release it later in the form of meltwater as warmer summer temperatures cause the glacier to melt, creating a water source that is especially important for plants, animals and human uses when other sources may be scant. Within high-altitude and Antarctic environments, the seasonal temperature difference is often not sufficient to release meltwater.

 

 



We will be able to see this glacier but not close up.

An ice fall hazard zone has been identified at the toe and sides of Exit Glacier
due to tall blocks and slabs of ice, as well as ice caves.

Homer to Seward

Route for the day.
Left Homer at 70 degrees.  Arrived Seward at 55 degrees.

Kenai River has the coolest colored water. Looks like aqua!

Don’t think that pics do justice of the  water color, but it’s darn close!

Lunch on the Seward Highway

A pull through site, for next 2 days, made it easy to set up in pouring rain!
Tomorrow we are off to the town of Seward and a side trip to Exit Glacier!

Staying safe w correct tire pressure

My inflator’s air hose easily extends to reach all trailer tires.

Over the winter had a 12v outlet added to my double battery box.
I needed one that has a 15amp fuse.
Makes checking and adding air to tires an easy job!

Half Way Wash

Worst dirt is coming through construction areas where they
wet the top coat.  Looks like cement when it dries.

Half way through trip:
Trailer gets washed!
